Welcome to Our Church

The ROCK Garden

This volunteer-built, folk art-inspired garden is a path toward connecting with God through nature. The Biblical texts on stones and walkways emphasize God’s love and promises. He is the inspiration and creator of everything beautiful.

In addition to the acre of flowers and greenery, the garden contains artistry of more than 50 hand-sculpted buildings. The structures, all crafted from tiny stones, pebbles, shells, odd pieces of broken glass and china, rocks, ceramic tile, cement, wire, and other materials, are designed to imitate their larger counterparts. There are tiny churches, houses, castles, a monastery, and cathedrals such as a structure modeled after the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, France, with stained-glass windows.

There is also a 1-mile dirt/gravel trail leading across two creek bridges and up a small hill at the garden that has some fantastic creek views.

History

The garden was first designed and construction began in 2007 by Dewitt Boyd “Old Dog,” who was later joined in his efforts by his wife, Joyce. The garden became an icon and imaginative place of castles and medieval villages, flowers, and plantings.

Purpose

It is the desire of the Calhoun Seventh-day Adventist Church that all visitors find this to be a peaceful place, where the balance of art and nature points to Jesus Christ, our Creator and Redeemer. All are welcome to view, meditate, ponder, and pray.
